This was one half of the shops. Forgot to take a picture of the other side of the room, but you get the idea. We had 22 or 23 kids, depending on who you ask, which for us is a really good size! We usually average around 12-14.
We had a scroll shop, where they practiced painting hebrew letters on their scrolls. Some actually attempted to do that, others just drew pictures or wrote their names. It was pretty cute!
Had to have a jewelry shop, so they could make themselves something pretty. Madie stayed in this shop for 40 min! We had tons of different kinds of beads for them to use, so they really had fun there.
The favorite of Noah and Livie was this shop - the Carving Shop. They took little foam blocks, made to look like stone tablets, and carved 3 hebrew symbols in it to spell out the word "Shema", which means "to listen". It got dust everywhere, but the kids really liked this one a lot!
This was the Spice Shop, where they took basil leaves (courtesy of a friend of mine who grows it in her garden), bay leaves, and cinnamon and crushed them all up and put them in potpourri bags to take home.

This one took a while to figure out how to make it, but it was probably my favorite of them all - Candle-making. They took pieces of blue and white beeswax paper and rolled them into sections to create a Havdalah candle. Really cool!
My shop was the bakery. It smelled delicious and not a slice was left when we were finished! I'd like to say I actually took the time to bake the bread, but for $2/loaf, I left the baking to the capable hands of the Walmart staff. ;-) We had sourdough, cinnamon, and a fantastic tomato/basil italian. Yum! No wonder none was left!

The last shop we had was the Harp-Making Shop. This one was probably the easiest one, but the kids really enjoyed it. Actually heard a few of the kids trying to strum their rubber bands on their harps. Cute!

The kids were so excited when they woke up this morning. They couldn't WAIT for the kick-off to begin. They had helped Pete and I yesterday when we set up, so they were anxious to get in there and do all the activities.
I've always been blessed with a good group of volunteers that help me each year make our SS program a success, but for the first time, I have an abundance of junior helpers! Really excited to have them serve and learn through teaching. Want these kids to walk away from our program knowing just a bit more than they did before. And, mostly importantly, want to plant that seed of Christ in their hearts, so that one day God will grow them into wonderful young christians. Hope we're in for a great year!
