Tball Practice

Today was Noah's very first official day of Tball practice! He's done tball before through the YMCA, but it wasn't on a real field or anything. It was more an introduction of the game and stuff. This was a REAL practice!


First they started by playing catch together. Noah did a pretty good job during this part. They did this while waiting for everyone to arrive. Once they did they all did their stretches, then lined up at home plate for some base running.

Here's Noah running to first base. He ran really hard. They had to practice running to 1st base. Then they practiced running all the bases, calling them out as they touched them. Noah by far yelled the loudest. :-)

Then they each took a turn hitting the ball. They each hit it 4 times, then ran after the 5th hit. As each kid went up to bat, the people in the field rotated a spot. Most of the kids only hit to the pitcher's mound, so here Noah was catching the ball and throwing it to first. He started off in this position, then headed to first base to field. He did well there, but after he was shifted off first, he got really bored, because he wasn't getting any balls and opted to spin around in circles or talk to the people beside him. We talked later about keeping our head in the game and our eyes and minds focused on the batter. He'll learn, but he at least worked really hard during those first few batters. Though, I will say, as a daughter of a baseball fanatic, it's hard to sit there and not want to "help", but I refrained and left it to the coaches to let him know to stop spinning or get off the ground. ;-)

Then Noah finally made his way around. He was the 2nd to last batter, so he was really excited when he finally got up there. He did a GREAT job hitting the ball. The coach really worked with him on how to hold the bat and then he hit the ball really well. After they were all done, the coach told them to run around the field by the fence, but they didn't hear that, so they just ran around the bases. It was supposed to be a race, so lots of kids weren't even touching the bases, just so they could get by the next person. When they got back he told them they were supposed to run all the way to the fence and follow it around, so he had them do it again. It was hilarious, they all ran in like different directions and only like one of them actually made it to the fence. They were all trying to cut by the people in front of them and all of us moms in the stands were just laughing at them. Anyway, it was a good first practice. Noah and I went to the park, just the two of us, afterwards and talked about what tball is going to be like and how we can work our hardest for our team and pay attention and be "baseball ready". I'm really excited to see how his season goes. I'm hoping he continues to listen to his coaches and tries his best and make good friends with his teammates and, most of all, learn to love the sport as much I did at his age.
